This month’s featured author is homegrown! Local author Anna Staniszewski’s books span from tween novels to picture books, with a new chapter book series in between! Visit Ms. Staniszewski’s website to find out more about all of her books, get a sneak peek at her upcoming picture book, and to learn more about her. You can access many of her middle grade books as ebooks as well; find out more about ebooks here.
Ms. Staniszewski’s two most recent stand-alone books – Secondhand Wishes and The Wonder of Wildflowers – both weave a little magic into the lives of tween girls, although in very different stories. Keep an eye out for another stand-alone coming next summer, featuring a girl who relies on the scientific method rather than magic to help her fit in at school. All of her books have fun plotlines with lighthearted humor mixed throughout, even when characters might be in a tricky situation.
Middle grade series fans are likely to enjoy the nitty-gritty Dirt Diary series, in which Rachel gets stuck cleaning houses with her Mom… and finding out some secrets while she’s at it! For a lighter take, upper elementary readers can check out My UnFairy Tale Life series… Jenny is also stuck doing a job she’s not too keen on – saving Fairy Tale lands!
Ms. Staniszewski has also entered the world of chapter books with a new series in the highly popular Scholastic Branches publishing line (think: Owl Diaries, Press Start, and Dragon Masters, among others). Four books are currently available in the Once Upon a Fairy Tale series, which has characters Kara and Zed taking on quirky fairy tale problems. These are all available in our Chapter Book section for early readers.
In the picture book section, look for Dogosaurus Rex (great for dinosaur AND dog fans!)… and you can be sure you’ll find her latest picture book on our shelves when it’s published in February!
