The results of our recent Storytime Survey, meant to determine where storytime attendees would like Wiggleworms, Babytime, and Family Storytime to be held in the spring and summer, are in! Your voices came through loud and clear! Over 90% of attendees selected our outside garden space as the preferred location, citing sunshine, fresh air, and room to breathe as primary motivating factors. While we love our cozy window nook, we’re excited to greet a new season with open arms! JK Growling, in particular, is looking forward to rides in her little blue wagon and feeling the breeze as it tousles her fur.
Starting after our Storytime Break*, beginning with Wiggleworms on Tuesday, April 25th, ALL morning storytime sessions will be held in the Garden. Pajama Storytime, which takes place at 6:30pm on the 4th Monday of each month, is the only exception; this evening storytime session will continue to meet inside throughout the spring.
Please note that this location switch is weather-dependent. If there’s precipitation falling from the sky or if the temperature has already climbed above 85 degrees by 10am, expect to meet inside the library in the Children’s Room. The best way to check for updates is to follow our Facebook page. These updates won’t be made too far in advance (as our workday does not begin until 10am) but if you live in town (or nearby), you should at least be able to know where we’re meeting before you leave the house. If all else fails, check the signboard at the top of our driveway once you arrive. If we’re meeting outside (as planned), the signboard will not address storytime at all. If there’s a change, however, and we’ve switched to meeting inside, we’ll be sure to update the board.
If you’ve never attended our outdoor storytime sessions before, please make note of the following:
-
Storytime takes place in the Garden area. Your friendly librarians (Miss Alyisha or Miss Hannah) will present on-stage while attendees relax on the grass. You’re welcome to sit on either level (the flat area below the stage or the grassy hill directly across from it).
-
We suggest keeping a blanket (or chairs) in your car at all times; waterproof or water-resistant blankets are best (in case the grass is damp).
-
Other helpful accessories include: water, sunblock, sunglasses, and a sunhat. While our garden is a gorgeous space, rich in color, warmth, and life, shade is scarce.
We’re excited about the change and we hope that you are, too! If you follow the tips listed above, you should be ready, come what may. Or – come what April.
*Remember: there will be no regular storytime sessions held during April Break week, Tuesday, 4/18 through Friday, 4/21. All families are welcome to attend Look-Alike Storytime (a special, drop-in storytime event) on Tuesday, April 18th at 10:30 a.m.
