Kwame Alexander is a multi-award-winning poet/author known for his middle-grade books about basketball, and more recently for the Caldecott Award winning book The Undefeated, but these are just two examples of his many works spanning from picture books to YA novels.
Books in the Crossover series are told in verse, featuring young athletes dealing with challenges in both their sport and in life. The Undefeated highlights black men and women from history who took a stand for what they believed in. It is described as “an ode to black American triumph and tribulation.” One of Mr. Alexander’s more whimsical books is a collection of poetry called Animal Ark, a National Geographic book accompanied by photographs of real(ly adorable) animals. You can find many of his books on Overdrive/Libby or Hoopla. Click here to find information on accessing ebooks.
In addition to writing, Mr. Alexander is also a speaker and educator. He started a publishing company, Versify, which he founded to seek out and promote voices of aspiring authors from all backgrounds. Read more about Mr. Alexander on his website.
