This summer, you're invited to Plant a Seed, Read! The Ames Free Library's annual summer reading incentive program begins on Thursday, June 25 and runs through Monday, August 31. We have reading programs and events for all ages throughout the summer.
Logging for the summer reading program takes place on ReadSquared. Download the mobile app or visit amesfreelibrary.readsquared.com to register for our summer reading programs! If you've participated in our summer reading or winter BINGO programs in the past, you can use the same account for this year's program. New to summer reading at AFL? Account creation takes just a few minutes and also includes the option to link other readers giving you the ability to log reading for your whole household in just a few clicks.
Pre-Readers Summer Reading Program (for kids age 4 and younger)
This summer, we're introducing an exciting program exclusively for babies, toddlers, and pre-readers! Play Rubber Ducky Club Bingo and complete early literacy activities to earn rubber duckies.
Kids Summer Reading Program (for kids ages 4 - 12)
This year, the dragons are back! Kids can use the minutes they read to purchase either a Mystery Bead or a Reading Dragons & Friends card in the ReadSquared Prize Store.
Teen Summer Reading Program (for ages 12 - 18)
Teens ages 12 through 18 can read to earn raffle tickets for great prizes!
Adult Summer Reading Program (for ages 18 and over)
Summer reading is never just for kids! Adults can join in and earn raffle tickets for gift cards to local businesses. This year's adult summer reading program is sponsored by the Friends of the Ames Free Library.
Fun for the Whole Family!
But wait, there's more! Summer at the library isn't just about reading (although that's definitely a highlight). There are some epic events, too. Picture this: spending a Thursday evening in the Queset Garden with your family enjoying concerts for music lovers of all ages. And our Family Garden Shows are back on Monday nights with music, magic, and fun for the whole family. Our event calendar has information on all of these performances and more happening at the library. Tip: sign up for our weekly events newsletter to get information on upcoming programs delivered right to your inbox.
