Program Updates: (Re)Imagining Your Storytimes

It’s hard to imagine, but we are now halfway through our summer reading program – Imagine Your Story! (If you haven’t joined the Read & Bead program or want to know more about it, check here!)

We have been imagining – or perhaps, reimagining – our weekly storytimes to go along with the summer theme. We have two sessions for all ages (Family Storytime on Monday and Thursday), as well as WiggleWorms for toddlers (Tuesdays) and Babytime for infants and pre-walkers (Wednesdays).

Virtual storytimes look a little different than our in-house storytimes, but we still have songs, rhymes, and silly activities for each age group. Each week, Miss Jess also chooses a traditional tale – some you might know already, some might be new – and you can use your imagination to make pictures while you listen! You can also find picture book versions of each story we tell, so check our catalog for the featured story (or any other!) to place on hold, and we’ll arrange a time to pick it up once it is available for you.

We’ve gone the opposite way for the flannel board section of storytime. During this section, instead of using your imagination to go with a song or activity, we illustrate the activity on the flannel board for you! When we roll the die for our weekly song in Family Storytime, or for color, shape, or counting activities in WiggleWorms, you’ll see flannel figures illustrating the activity for you. Maybe you’ll be inspired to make your own flannel sets at home! (It’s actually quite easy! Get ideas here or here!)

We hope to see you back in the library before too long… but until then, fire up your imaginations in our virtual storytimes!
