This year's kids' summer reading incentive program is open to teens and adults too! But remember, if you choose to enroll in Reading Dragons & Friends, you cannot participate in the raffle-based teen or adult program.
When you register for Reading Dragons & Friends on ReadSquared, you will receive a welcome packet that includes:
- One Book Buck, which can be used for books from our book sale cart or over at the Friends of the Ames Free Library Book Sale Room at Queset House
- A chain, which you can add the beads you earn from reading to
- 3 starter cards for the Reading Dragons & Friends card game
- Instructions for how to play the Reading Dragons & Friends card game
As you log the minutes that you read on your ReadSquared account, you'll earn points which you will exchange for different cards featuring fantastical creatures in the app's Prize Store. Every card purchase will also entitle you to one mystery bead from our Dragon's Hoard treasure chest when you pick up in the Children's Room.
Whether you're reading or being read to, reading a chapter book, graphic novel, or listening to an audiobook, it all counts as reading you can log on ReadSquared. Click here for some of our tips for using ReadSquared.
There are 35 cards in this summer's Reading Dragons & Friends deck including the 3 starter cards. Log 16 hours of reading this summer to earn enough points to purchase the whole deck!
We'll also have gaming sessions led by our outstanding VolunTEENs at Queset House this summer, where you can drop in and play this awesome game against other local readers!
