Winthrop Ames, Queset House, and Their Role in American Theatre
The Ames Family's connection to American theatre stretches all the way back to Congressman Oakes Ames in the 1850s, but it was his grandson Winthrop Ames of Queset House who made the most lasting impact on Broadway. At times, perhaps quite often, Winthrop Ames could be irritatingly elitist, but he also fought censorship, spoke out against racism and Anti-Semitism and provided the impetus for a multi-billion dollar media empire. Come learn about Winthrop Ames, a fascinating character who did so much more than produce revivals of Shakespeare and Gilbert & Sullivan.
