Self-Publishing Author Talk and Workshop with Tanner Walling

Ever wanted to publish a book but never knew where to start? Tanner Walling, a senior Communication and History double major at Stonehill College, is an independently published author of four novels. Tanner joins us for a workshop built on his nearly ten years of experience with independent publishing.

In this workshop, he will walk audiences through his writing and publishing journey before working with them on how to utilize the publishing tools that have made him successful. Bring a laptop or other device to participate in the workshop activities.

Tanner writes: I started writing novels a decade ago this year, publishing my first novel, a middle-grade disaster thriller titled Fury of the Storm, just weeks shy of my fourteenth birthday. Since then, I published three more novels in that series, writing stories and giving talks about writing aimed at inspiring young readers and writers, especially those who are more reluctant to read. As someone without any connections in the publishing industry, and who wasn't told they had prodigious writing talent growing up, I hope to inspire others with my story and show them that if they work hard and have a story to tell, they too can become a published author because if I can, they certainly can too. Learning the ropes of writing and publishing entirely by myself over the past decade, I hope to share what I've learned on this journey with aspiring authors and help them avoid the mistakes I made and launch their careers successfully.
