DIY "Year in Books" Poster

Get ready for your best reading year yet! At this book-lovers’ art program, you’ll create an interactive reading tracker to use in 2023. Design a bookshelf on poster-sized watercolor paper and fill the shelves with blank spines. Throughout the year, whenever you finish reading a book, color-in a spine and write-in the book’s title. Readers may customize their shelves with decor: add potted plants, succulents, bookends, string lights, a sleeping cat; if you can (attempt to) draw it, you can add it! At the end of the year, look back at everything you’ve read and smile.

Artists who complete their bookshelves are invited to return their posters at the end of the year, as 2023 draws to a close. We’ll display them together as one big library mural! Artworks will be “on loan.” If you share your piece with us, you can collect it when the art show is over.

This program is for kids (8+), teens, and adults! Children and families will create their masterpieces in the 2nd Floor Conference Room; independent adult artists looking for a quieter space may craft in the Makerspace. Join us on Friday, December 30th from 3-4pm. No registration required.
