It’s getting to be that time of year in New England…
The weather outside might be frightful, but the Ames Free Library is here to keep you entertained throughout winter 2022. One way we’re bringing some fun your way is with Winter BINGO! From January 3 through March 21, readers of all ages can join us on READsquared for BINGO. There are different challenges for kids, teens, and adults. For every three BINGO lines you complete, you’ll earn a Book Buck, which you can use to purchase a book from the Friends of the Library book sale room at Queset House or from the library sale cart.
If you’re over 18 and not already sold on joining, here are the top three reasons you should participate in the Adult Winter Reading BINGO challenge!
It’s less of a challenge and more of an adventure
Don’t let the word “challenge” in the title intimidate you. In fact, think of this as an adventure instead! Your BINGO card will prompt you to explore AFL’s offerings in ways you may not have before. You may be asked to pick up a book that’s outside of a genre you normally read or try out some different library resources. You never know, you might find a new favorite author or book that you wouldn’t have picked up otherwise. And since the program runs for eleven weeks, you’ll have plenty of time to pace yourself.
It’s not ALL about reading
Not every square on your BINGO card will require reading a book. In fact, only half of the squares call for reading a book. Overall, your BINGO card is a guided mini tour to some of the different materials and resources AFL has to offer.
You’ll get to know the AFL staff
Spoiler alert: some of the squares on your BINGO card will give you the chance to get to know AFL staff a little more. So never fear if you’re running short on time and can’t chat with our Circulation staff when you come to pick up your holds or you don’t make it upstairs to see the staff in our Reference or Youth Services departments. You can find us - and learn a little bit more about us - online!
Bonus: You’ll support the AFL and the Friends of the Library!
We love it when you participate in library programs. Your participation not only makes us feel good, but also allows us to shout from the rooftops about our vibrant and engaged community. You help us live up to our motto: “Where the Community Connects.” And if you earn a Book Buck (or two, or three, or four) as part of Winter BINGO and spend those in the Friends Book Sale room, you’re supporting us even more. The Friends of the Library are integral to promoting and supporting Library activities and programs, and purchasing items not included in our budget.
Are you convinced now? Head over to READsquared and get registered today to join us in all of the BINGO fun!
