The Ames Free Library FOODIE GROUP has chomped it’s way through another season.

We learned:  how to“Put the Garden to Bed and Preserve the Harvest;  “Knife Skills and Sharpening”; the difference between herbs and spices and how to season with ease; magical tips on baking bread and savoring the warm smell and flavor of fresh baked bread; how to transition into vegetarian cooking and the benefits of a healthier eating lifestyle.

We searched the world for great coffee and chocolate with equal exchange and fair trade products; tasted incredible imported olive oil infused with wonderful flavors (The secret ingredient to good health and good taste).

We celebrated the winter holiday season and showed off our culinary skills with a potluck supper and movie night. We also celebrated Cinco de Mayo with a taste of authentic Mexican food!

We finished the year with “Make Food Not Lawn: A Permaculture Perspective”with an emphasis on the principle that our yards should work for us—give us food, conserve our resources, save us money…even as it enriches the soil, the beauty, and the animal and plant life of the land.
